Dual SIM Card Support
It'd be useful for a future version of the Neo to support a second SIM card for people who sometimes use another GSM service (e.g. when traveling abroad) and don't want to have to carry two phones or switch SIM cards to do so.
There a few different ways it could do this. Here are some options, in order from best/hardest to still-useful/easiest:
- Have a slot for a second SIM card, and activate both cards at the same time. (As roaming fees come down, this option, which allows folks to reach the phone through its primary number even when it is abroad, becomes more attractive.)
- Have a slot for a second SIM card, and make the owner choose which card to activate when turning on the phone. (I've heard there are some existing phones that do this.)
- Have a "storage" (i.e. no connectors) slot for a second SIM card, and make the owner switch the locations of the SIM cards to activate the other one. (This at least solves the problem of where to store the secondary SIM when it is not in use, since it is small and easily lost.)
I don't think we need a second SIM card slot. We have an open device and can just copy the SIM to the phone. That way we can have as many SIM cards as the software supports.
Comment: You cannot copy the authentication part of the SIM. Important information is stored in a unaccessable part including the (secret/provider dependent) A3/A8 algo.
