This page includes instructions on how to install the Ångström Distribution test images on the SL-6000 series Zaurus PDA's, also called Tosa.
What you will need:
- SL-6000 series PDA
- Your AC adapter
- CF or SD card formatted with fat16
- Test images
Getting the Images
Navigate to http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/images/tosa/ The build are listed in folders with their release number e.g. r8, go ahead and choose the one with the highest number. You will need to download the installkit file from this directory. Choose the x11 installkit if you want an X server, the gpe installkit if you want gpe, or the minimalist installkit if you don't need a gui. Check the md5sum for the package and unpack the tarball if it passes.
The latest tested working tosa release is r8, with kernel version 2.6.23. We are striving to fix the last nagging booting problem of the 2.6.24 tosa kernel, which should be coming soon.... (6/19/2008 Gordon Xu)
File Names
Extract the install kit of your chosen image and put the following files under the root directory of you CF or SD card
- updater.sh
- zImage.bin
- initrd.bin
Preparing the Update
Now, connect your CF or SD card to your computer using a card reader and drag those three files above to the root of the card. Eject the card, making sure the changes are written.
Updating
First, plug in your Zaurus using the AC adapter, the update will not proceed without external power. Second, put in your CF or SD card. Restart the Zaurus.
Now, we need to get into the Maintenance menu. Press and hold the "OK" button, and press the power button. It should pop up a menu that has four options, choose the option that says "Update".
Select the medium that you are using, either CF or SD. The updater will run, it will take a couple of minutes. When it is done, it will automatically restart
