Linux On HTC Magician (status)

How to use linux without a linux computer or linux filesystem on your sd card

Just download the *.exe. file and the tar.bz2 file (only openmoko image for now) and copy them to the root of your SD card.
Hit the *.exe. file and linux will install. It will make a 100MB linux image with the rootfs inside.
First boot will take some time because of the install process. But next boot will go faster.
If you want to get rid of linux the just delete the *.exe file and the 100MB image file and linux is gone.
The *.tar.bz2 file is only needed for first boot because of the install, it can be deleted next time you boot in to wince.

** REMEMBER: Booting linux on our magian will force the device to take a hardreset. Take a backup before you try to boot. Everything will be deleted. **

How to install linux on HTC Magician with a Linux computer, follow the tutorial in the download folder:

Quick method to install using a linux computer

1) Make a vfat and a ext3 file system om your SD card (important ext3 partition has to be on the second partition)..
2) Extract the image (openmoko/gpe/x11/opie etc) to the linux partition (ext3) {tar jxvpf "image" ./}
3) Copy linload.exe to the vfat partition
3) Insert SD card and run Linux (start linload.exe).

Note:
The first boot take some time because it generate locales and publish some gnome-vfs mimetypes.
BOOTING LINUX ON YOUR MAGICIAN IS THE SAME AS TAKING A HARDRESET.

Remember, this might break your device running this images (it has never happend), i am not responsable if something happends.
I just do this for fun, and i dont see the point of not sharing this.
